Big Brown Sweater - The Front

Believe it or not, I have a post about actual knitting. Not about "I'd rather be knitting" or "hey, I've got nothing, how about that Ravelry thing" but actual knitting.

Last night I decided that I needed a break from work and resumed knitting my husband's sweater. I started to do the V neck part. I've never done a V neck before and it is a lot of fun. The two balls of yarn and the decreases make it just interesting enough to be a relief from that vast amount of plain stockinette that I just finished.

Here is a close up of the neck:

Hmm...I'm thinking that stitch marker is pretty pointless since the big gaping V should be a pretty good reminder of where the decreases should be. Must take that off.

In other news, my soon-to-be 4 year old decided to do some knitting this week. This is what she came up with. I think it shows great potential.

Decisions, Decisions

So, who wants to see a picture of a one armed Tilted Duster because the knitter is too lazy to put in the second sleeve which has been knitted for months? No one? Just as I thought.

How about the front of the big brown sweater that looks EXACTLY like the back? No? Me neither.

Ok, then pictures are out for this blog update.

The good news is that those projects are finishing up and we can move on. Here are the contenders for my next project:

Emma's Unmentionables from Knitty: www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring08/PATTemmas.html

A Re-useable Swiffer Cloth: http://birdysknits.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=24

Starsky Jr. Sweater from Knitty: http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEwinter06/PATTstarskyjr.html

I already have yarn for Emma's Unmentionables and the swiffer cloth. So, obviously, that means I should start with the Starsky Jr. sweater because it would mean a trip to the yarn store....well at least the virtual yarn store since I can't seem to get to my LYS these days.

So, I hear you have to KNIT

to actually have something to say on a knitting blog. Huh. Who knew?

I, sadly, have not been doing much knitting because I have been doing all too much working. This makes me not happy. So, knitty.com was nice enough to publish their spring 2008 edition and for that I am very grateful. It means that between paragraphs, or while I wait for a writing idea to come into my head, I can visit knitty in addition to ravelry.

I can't wait to make Emma's Unmentionables for my soon-to-be 4 year old. I showed her the picture and she is all about pants that you can twirl in. So, now that I've decided on that. I'm off to ravelry to think about yarn...

And I promise, sometime, when I knit again, I may just have something interesting to post about!

4 Buttons

I want to my local yarn store today and left with ONLY the 4 buttons I went in to buy. No, really I did. Even though there was a 30% sale. Obviously, I am coming down with something. This is just not right. But I do love my buttons :)

They are for the Tilted Duster.

Tilted Duster Portraits 2.0

So, here is the update on the Duster. It is out of time out. The skirt is all finished and just begging for a good blocking.

The third time was a charm and I have successfully picked up stitches for the collar.

And this is what I have left in yarn. Please say a little prayer that it will get me through the rest of the collar and seaming up the sleeves.

My goal was to wear it for my birthday tomorrow. That won't be happening (I may finish it today but it needs buttons which I don't have yet and a blocking) but I'm ok with that. I will be able to wear it during this never ending winter and that's all that matters. I think after this it is time to cast on some spring and summer knits and put the heavy wools away for a while.

Frustration

Sorry I haven't posted in a few weeks. I've been knitting. And frogging. And knitting and frogging. It is a terrible cycle. I finished the skirt on the Tilted Duster and picked up the stitches for the collar. Backwards. And then I did it again. Backwards. This is when I put the Duster down and started back to work on my husband's big brown sweater.
In my defense, I am resisting the urge to cast on something new until I finish at least one sweater.
Oh, and one more thing. The Duster....not so flattering on me. It is in time out until a) I gather the courage to try the collar again or b) I gather the courage to rip the whole thing out and knit me something else with the Peruvia.
Decisions, Decisions.

Is it just me?

For all of you Ravelry people out there - I have a question. Do you find yourself spending lots of time on that site and getting lost in pattern searches and forums and other places? Or is it just me?

I admit. it took me a little while to figure out the site but Oh My Goodness. I've got it now and I can't stop myself. I want to knit the Central Park Hoodie (after I finish the Big Brown Sweater and the Tilted Duster, of course) so I have to look at everyone's pictures and decide on what yarn and what color. Then, I go to the forums and read the posts there.

And then, well, life gets in the way and I really do have one and I've got stuff to do. But, there are so many other things in my queue to research...what's a girl to do?
